Bathroom Remodel
OK, so the unexpected bathroom remodel (that was being planned for next year) started on Monday, November 17. So after spending tons of money on other emergencies (totalling over $1000 over 2 months, not including this project), we are pretty broke and Christmas is going to be lean.
The reason for the remodel was a wall unexpectedly crumbled (well I had a feeling it could happen) when I started removing tiles to replace them with new ones. Well more than half the wall was no good and crumbled off. So, we were going to have to pay big bucks to just have that wall fixed so we ended up finding someone who would redo the whole thing for a reasonable price. I can't wait until it's finished. It's looking great so far.
Here are some pictures of the bathroom before the remodel. The damaged wall is covered by a shower curtain so we could at least use the shower until the remodel started.

Day 1
Here are some photos on day 1 of the remodel.
The walls around the tub were knocked down and the sink removed and tiles around it removed and wall fixed. Light fixture was moved to center over new vanity and a new electrical outlet was installed (only one we had was on light fixture). Medicine cabinet also removed.
Day 2
This is day 2 of the remodel. They got here at 7:30am (way too early). As you can see , the far wall has been tiled. The other 2 walls have the walls up and will get tiled tomorrow. Most of the linoleum (thank god that hideous green marble look is going away) is gone.
They ran into a problem with the tiles because they forgot a tool to cut circles in the tile for the toilet water line. They will be back in the morning to put in the rest of the tile. I think they are also installing the new toilet tomorrow as well.
I absolutely love the new tile!! I am so glad we went this route instead of a tub surround.
New vanity and light

Here's the new vanity we are putting in except it's Dark Expresso color.

This is similar to the light we are installing except we have different globes. We have globes that curve out then back in at the bottom , but only slightly.
Day 3
It's Day 3 and they arrived around 7:30 am. Today there was a lot of sawing and drilling, I can only think they were sawing stuff to level the ground to put the tile down as well as sawing tile. Unfortunately, they are running a bit behind due to some problems they ran into (but fixed-dont ask me what), so they will here Friday AM too. I can't wait to sleep past 6:30 (though I used to get up at 6:30 everyday when I worked at New Albany hehe).
Anyway, the tile is all down and the light fixture is up. Tomorrow they will do the grouting and not sure if the toilet and vanity will get installed then or wait until Friday when it's dry and ready to be sealed. I think the tub is going to be done on Friday too (reglazing it).
It looks really great, I can't hardly believe it's the same room.
Days 4-7
OK, I know it's been awhile since I've updated. This project was originally a 4 day project but is turning more into a 2 week project. I didn't post anything for Day 4 because only grouting was done that day and it would have looked the same as Day 3.
On Friday, Day 5, the plan was to finish the work including sealing the grout, glazing the tub, putting in the vanity and toilet but of course nothing can go as planned. Problems with the tub have surfaced (couldn't get the gloss off) and some drywall putty that wouldn't dry even though it was supposed to be fast drying. So they planned to come back on Day 6.
Day 6, Saturday - once they are here to glaze the tub and seal the grout. But atlas, more problems with the tub. Now the drain we bought won't work. Apparently my tub has some weird
drain in it that no one has seen before. However, the toilet and vanity got installed (though neither working). So, as of Saturday, we still have no tub/shower and no ETA on one because
of not being able to find a part. Contractor says they can't come back until Wednesday at the earliest - big sigh. They are looking for a part for the drain. I suggested that we
may have to replace the whole drain assembly - fortunately my tub has access from basement and bedroom so it should be an easy change.
Day 7 - Stepdad, Paul, hooked up toilet and sink though we discover there is a leak in the sink from the part contractor installed, so they will look at it when here next.
So, it's been frustrated and not because of the contractors but because of that darn tub!
Keep your fingers crossed we get a shower soon. We can't paint until last of wall is sanded too, ugh. I am hoping we have time to paint it before Thanksgiving when we are hosting 9 other people.
It's Finished!!
OK, the bathroom was finally finished by contractor at 12:30am on Wednesday morning. The next night we painted. It's hard to see the color in the bathroom. We made some painting goofs because we were hurrying and tired. Oh well, overall it looks good. We didn't get a chance to paint the trim the dark brown color to match the sink. We just painted everythign the same color. We can paint the trim later and touch up around the ceiling. Our goal was to get it ready for Turkey day guests. :)
Here are the final pictures, the colors we plan to accent are dark brown and a light blue color. We need to buy new towel racks and new rug to match.
YAY! It's over, we are pleased with the job the contractor did, especially considering all the problems they faced. :)
